The Plainsmen

We sing (and love) unaccompanied harmonies! We’re not professional singers - just regular guys having fun, but by exploiting the special qualities of ‘a cappella’ singing our chorus sound is much greater than the sum of its parts. “Butcher, baker, candlestick maker…” our members come from all walks of life but we’re united in our love of Barbershop music and its unique ringing chords. Our singing can raise the roof, curl the hairs on your neck, or bring a tear to your eye with a tender love song.

Our chorus and smaller groups perform regularly around Christchurch, with annual Spring and Christmas shows, ANZAC Day performances and various public and private events. We also travel nationally for shows and conventions - performance is a big part of what we do. While we always strive to develop our performance quality, we’re also a social group. Our rehearsals are fun occasions with plenty of laughter and for many of us rehearsal night is the highlight of the week.

If you’re looking for a singing group to join we’d love to hear from you. If you’re looking for entertainment we’d love to see you at our shows.

Thinking of Joining?

You don’t need to be a Pavarotti to be a Plainsman!  If you can sing ‘Happy Birthday’ in tune and are willing to let us help you develop your singing voice, you have what it takes.

There are no secret handshakes and there’s no pressure to audition right away.  You’ll be welcome to practise with us while we help you build skills and confidence.
