About Us

As you may have gathered, the Canterbury Plainsmen is a “Barbershop Chorus” – that is, a group of men who like to sing songs written in the Barbershop style. We are based in the beautiful city of Christchurch, in New Zealand’s South Island. The Chorus meets every Monday night, and visitors are always welcome. We love to have an audience !

We currently have a membership of over 60 men, from young to not-so-young. All are from different walks of life, have different jobs (or are retired), and different interests. The one thing they do have in common is a love of Barbershop music. Despite what you may think, you don’t have to be the world’s best singer to join a chorus and enjoy Barbershop harmony. Our members are not professional singers, but regular guys having fun. Our talented Music Team is always ready to help you make the most of your singing voice. We’ll soon have you shakin’ the rafters !

Do you sing in the shower? Do you like having fun?

Our chorus meets every Monday night at 7:30pm, at the Upper Riccarton Methodist Church hall on the corner of Yaldhurst Road and Brake Street in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Hello,
My name is Buda Miljkovic and I am the conductor of the Musica Balkanica Choir from Christchurch.  The choir nurtures and promotes the musical heritage of the South-eastern Europe, more precisely the Balkan peninsula (Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia, Greece, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia).  Our repertoire includes both sacral text of
Eastern European tradition and the exotic folk tunes in many local languages.  We have been in existence since Feb 2004 and our members hail from many countries of the world, e.g. Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Korea, New Zealand.  We have done a number of prominent Concerts in Christchurch and the South Island.
The reason I amwriting to you today is that we are looking for a set of risers for our next performance in the Nut Point Centre (http://nutpoint.org/page30.html) on Saturday, the 2nd of April 2011.  Since the space there is limited we need to line-up in three rows on narrow raisers.  In searching for them, Susan Noseworthy and then Marry Black from the Christchurch City Chorus remembered your group and were kind enough to show me the risers of your group, which look perfect for our use.
So, I would like to kindly ask you, if it is at all possible, to lend us or rent us the risers for the said performance.  Your consideration in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
 Kind regards,
Buda Miljkovic
