Chance Encounter - the name says it all. After Men Aloud disbanded last year I (Bryan Taylor) was in two minds about forming another quartet. In some ways they are pure delight - making music with a bunch of friends - in other ways they can be a lot of hard work. But then, by chance, two new members joined the Chorus, Rob Beale and Ben Sewell, both with quartet experience and very good musical skills. We sang a couple of times in the back room, talked a bit and found we had similar tastes and the same hopes for and requirements of a quartet. It also helped that our voices were a good blend. We needed a fourth voice and one night, as we stood scratching our heads, Gary wandered up. I asked if he wanted to join a quartet, knowing that he was already involved in Late Shift and expecting him to laugh it off, but he said “Could be”. Back into the back room! His voice complemented Ben’s in the way we had hoped for and our quartet was complete. You’ve got to have a bit of luck sometimes. And sometimes we have to make our own luck. But the occasional chance encounter doesn’t go astray!.
